MTETEZI: DAUGHTERS OF TOMOROW
MTETEZI: The Daughters of Tomorrow
A documentary film of activism, resilience, and change
This powerful documentary reimagines storytelling through the lens of activism and grassroots advocacy. With a compelling, visually rich narrative, it connects local changemakers to global movements, spotlighting the deeply personal yet systemic fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
At its heart is Domtila Chesang, a fearless activist who has dedicated her life to eradicating FGM in Kenya. Having resisted the cut herself, and deeply affected by witnessing her cousin undergo the procedure, Domtila channels her experience into a mission of education and empowerment.
The film follows her journey to West Pokot, where the FGM prevalence rate is an alarming 44%, compared to the national average of 15%. Here, the practice is driven by cultural traditions, religious beliefs, and misinformation. Domtila’s grassroots network of anti-FGM advocates is changing the narrative, working within communities to offer safe alternatives, economic empowerment, and access to education for at-risk girls.
